Notting Hill Pied-à-terre

Creating a garden hideaway inspired by the district’s dynamic history.

This beautiful garden flat in central Notting Hill was housed in a stunning period conversion on Talbot Road. The building was built in 1800s in a Regency style and had been later converted into flats, as almost all the properties on the street have been.

The challenge when Laura and Patrick purchased the property was to create a sense of space and light - the fully renovated space and with clever use of colour, art and mirrors created a bright and airy space in the heart of one of the most popular and stylish areas of London.

They used it for themselves when they needed to be in London for work and it was also run as a very successful short-let property. It was listed with some of the most prominent luxury rental companies, and was selected by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the top ten Airbnb properties in the world.

To create a light, fresh and calm feel we took influence from Scandinavian apartments and commissioned Kristin Gaudio Endsley to paint a Diptych which acts both as the central piece of the room and cleverly disguises the TV.

Notting Hill is an area known for pretty pastel-coloured houses, and we wanted the flat to also reflect this. Soft colours, and the repetition of tiles and fabrics in different parts of a space help to create a calming design.

The property is in a buzzy area of the city, so we created a little oasis of calm for them to return to after a fun day or night out.
