Victorian Carriage House

Breathing life back into a stunning former stables and carriage house in the beautiful Dorset countryside.

Purchased as a probate sale in 2016, this carriage house and stables for the neighbouring stately home, had been loved and lived in by an artistic family for a long time and hadn’t been updated for over 40 years.

The property was split into three apartments and our vision was to return it to an elegant family home, creating a statement kitchen and family space in the central section of the U-shaped building.

The result was a beautifully calm and elegant home that followed its own path in terms of style - not originally a farmhouse, nor a Manor House, Laura found a middle ground and let the building create its own sense of style - a truly unique and memorable renovation that featured in many national publications and had a far reach on social media too, with the kitchen particularly, inspiring others.

RENOVATION INVESTMENT

We were inspired by the huge central area that had once been the stables. We could see ourselves creating something exceptional here

In the snug, I wanted a really cosy room for the winter, so I plumped for an intense blue from Zoffany; it has an amazing texture, a bit like velvet, and created the perfect ambience.

The large proportions of the room prevent the scale of this botanical wallpaper from overwhelming the space.

I love to create decadent utility/laundry rooms and have fun with wallpaper in these spaces. This gold bug wallpaper from Abnormals Anonymous in the US was the perfect addition.
