The Avalon Hotel, Beverley Hills
Back in deep darkest January P and I escaped to the sunshine in California for a couple of weeks - we had such a lovely time with friends, first in San Francisco, which was such a beautiful city and somewhere I could totally picture myself living - particularly in the gorgeous mansions in Pacific Heights! We then headed to Las Vegas for 48 hours (a must for everyone, but 48 hours is long enough!) and after that we drove across the desert to sunny Los Angeles.
It was my first visit and needless to say I loved the city. We stayed in the beautiful Avalon Hotel in Beverley Hills. Part of the Viceroy Hotel Group. The hotel is built around a lovely pool, the buildings that house the bedrooms were were formerly Condos - it is rumoured that Marilyn Monroe once lived there and the design of the hotel makes it very easy to picture here there!
The Avalon transports you back in time - think retro glamour from the 50s and 60s - I had to resist the urge to don a stylish one piece and spend my days sitting my the pool, wearing huge sunglasses and sipping cocktails - there was a huge city to explore and just not enough hours in the day!
Our room was stunning - a cool, calm colour palette of greys and turquoise, Carrara marble bathrooms with beautiful retro pieces of furniture to add character to the space. I was in retro heaven and I couldn't think of a more perfect place to base ourselves to explore Beverley Hills.
I you are planning a trip to LA then I can't recommend the Avalon enough - just make sure you pack that one piece and some huge sunglasses for movie star spotting!
