Homes Away From Home: Updown Cottage
This week’s Home Away From Home is the stunning Updown Cottage situated on Gold Hill in Shaftesbury. Gold Hill is known for a number of reasons, the first was as a main route for pilgrims to King Alfred’s Shaftesbury Abbey, which was one of the most important in the land until Henry VIII destroyed it, and the second is as a set for many film and television shoots, the most famous being Ridley Scott’s ‘Boy on a Bicycle Hovis’ ad from the 1970s, which even features the cottage.
The current owners have lovingly renovated Updown, keeping the traditional character and feel, while subtly introducing some modern, timeless designs that complement the antiques, slates and velvet, tweed and silk fabrics. Much of the furniture and lighting was found in local antique and reclamation yards giving the cottage a stylish and characterful feel.
The cottage sleeps 6 people and prices range from:
Mon - Fri or Fri to Mon short breaks in low season (£450) to high season (£795)
Weeks starting and ending on Mon or Fri in low season (£695) to high season (£1295).
Prices include fuel, basket of logs, cleaning, White Company linen, towels, bathrobes, Wi-Fi, national landline phone calls, natural Bramley toiletries from Chloe Luxton throughout your stay, a grocery basket of milk, bread, jam, marmalade, Dorset cereals, orange juice, tea, Nespresso capsules & butter.
