Homes Away From Home: Hidden Gems in Historic Carcassonne

This weekend was our final weekend as residents in Pollensa, which got me to thinking about weekends away and where I would like to go next if I were lucky enough to be whisked away on a romantic break! I love visiting cities for mini-breaks, as there is always so much to see and do and you come back feeling like you've been there for a lot longer than a couple of days.

This small collection of pied à terres in central Carcassonne would be the perfect place to spend a weekend exploring your historical surroundings. Access to the property is subtle (you have to follow your nose through le centre ville basse to number 42 and hope the owner Peter will be there to let you in!). Once inside you are surrounded by stylish interiors, a kitchen already stocked for you with goodies and if you like Peter will even prepare you a delicious supper. Slate bathrooms, Smeg-kitted kitchens and Farrow & Ball shades all help to make this 18th-century townhouse the perfect base for a mini-break in France.
